About Mr. Perez
As a child, Mr. Perez had a strong connection to music learning piano and bass guitar before his 6th grade year. As a 6th grader, he joined band as a clarinetist at Mayde Creek Junior High. He continued playing as he went into Mayde Creek High School and even participated in their Jazz Band as a tenor saxophonist. All this fostered his love for music and sparked a desire to give other students an opportunity to appreciate and find their connection to music as well.
Mr. Perez went on to attend Stephen F. Austin State University earning his Bachelor of Music degree and certification in education. While there, he performed with the Lumberjack Marching Band, Symphonic Band, and Wind Symphony earning roles as a Squad Leader and Section Leader for the LMB and Principal Clarinetist for the Symphonic Band and Wind Symphony.
After graduating, Mr. Perez took a position as Director of Bands at Fort Bend Christian Academy in Sugar Land, TX. In his 5 years there, he taught Beginning Band, Concert Band, and Symphonic Band. He also founded and taught a Pep Band that would perform at home Varsity football games and both Middle School and High School pep rallies. Mr. Perez prepared his students to perform in various festivals as well as TAPPS Concert and Sightreading winning various awards. His students also auditioned and were selected to perform in the TPSMEA All-State Band and All-State Jazz Band.
Mr. Perez’s most recent teaching role was as Assistant Band Director at Stratford High School in Houston, TX. In his 6 years there, he taught Concert Band and Symphonic Band. He also assisted with the Marching Band as well as performed with the Jazz Band. Mr. Perez assisted in preparing students for the TMEA All-State process as well as UIL Solo and Ensemble and Concert and Sightreading. Under his direction, the Symphonic Band earned multiple Superior ratings in both Concert and Sightreading.
Mr. Perez is excited to be joining WoodCreek Junior High as the Assistant Band Director. In his free time, he serves as the Worship Director at a church in Cypress, TX where he plays guitar, keyboard, bass guitar, drums, and sings. He is happily married to his high school sweetheart, Joy, and has 3 children; James, John, and Anna. Mr. Perez and his wife also adopted a dog named Gus-Gus. The Perez family love everything Disney and enjoy taking a trip to Disney World as often as they can.
